"Desert Expanse"
Here is the finished (possibly) painting of the below sketch. The jury is still out on this one. I'd like to hear some opinions and thoughts, if you will. As all artists know, it is difficult to create something, then hang it out there for all to see. A very personal event. But if the illustration world has taught me something, it is to have a thick skin.

No, I've done other such clouds ones in the past. Though this coloring is quite intense, I think the analagous color scheme works in this regard.
I really like the abstract quality of the sky. I think the analagous color is interesting. I wonder how the sky will be used in future paintings.
artguy, what do you mean "I wonder how the sky will be used in future paintings?"...expand on that eh.
You have a point there "bif". I had thought of doing some overlapping of the clouds while painting, but as you know, I am sort of a "flat" painter, so I left it that way. I'm sure that would add to the depth, etc..But once I finish a painting, it is hard for me to go back into it and re-work areas. I guess it'll have to be what it is, unless of course you bringing it to my attention grates on me enough to jump back into it. Thanks. I do appreciate your comments though, they are usually right on, unless they are not.
It just seems that the sky becomes more a part of your paintings. It seems to be a place of abstraction. I wonder if abstraction will enter into other aspect of your painting, or if your skies will become an even greater part of your paintings. I guess I like the flat abstract shapes, and I want to see more.
ah..artguy, I understand you now. It is easier for me to abstract the sky. Unlike Rob, who is fluent in abstracting anything, I'm still working on bringing that element into more of my work.
this is probably my favorite of your works thus far. Is has an abstract feel to it, which I love! The colors are vibrant and somewhat contrasting, which adds interest to what could otherwise be a "typical" desert scene. The movement in the clouds is especially grasping. I love it. Wish I had money!
